Quentin Blake’s Send a Rainbow Covid E-cards

Around this time in 2020 the UK was in lockdown to help control the spread of the Covid-19 virus. This is not a celebration of the anniversary. Looking back it was a very weird and tough time for everybody. However, a little silver lining on the dark clouds of that time I’m reminded of the out pouring of community which happened online to keep people connected. Beyond this there was lots of symbols of hope mainly in the form of rainbows adorning peoples windows. In troubling times it was great to see that people hadn’t given up hope and the rainbow embodied that for me during the various lockdowns that we were under.

Probably my favourite depiction of the rainbow came from the well known illustrator, Quentin Blake, who created a series of ‘portable rainbows’ in the form of free e-cards. These were designed to be send out electronically to people when we weren’t allowed to see loved one’s and friends. A brilliant idea and initiative that truly embodied that notion of hope and connection that lifted me up during that time 5 years ago.
